VietNamNet Bridge - A fine arts exhibition on President Ho Chi Minh, armed forces and revolutionary war has recently opened at the Military History Museum in Hanoi on the 64th anniversary of the Vietnam People Army (December 22, 1944).

Eight months after the launch, the organisers, which are the Military History Museum and the Vietnam Fine Arts Association have received around 200 art works in various medium such as graphic, sculpture and paintings in lacquer, oil, gouache, silk and woodcut by artists in and out of the army.

A number of 131 works have been selected for display which are imbued with the spirit of painter – soldier honoured by President Ho Chi Minh in his letter to painters in 1951.

Through 56 art works with theme on following the bright moral example of Ho Chi Minh, the image of President Ho – a leader and military man of genius, a great man of culture, have been lively depicted such as Uncle Ho (silk by Nguyen Thu), Uncle Ho on Business Trip (oil by Do Manh Cuong), Uncle Ho Comes to Hamlet (lacquer by Le Minh Chau) or A Meal in Forest (lacquer by Pham Ngoc Lieu).

Creativity on leader is a difficult theme but art works displayed at the exhibition are successful in highlighting the ideology and moral example of Ho Chi Minh, reflecting lively the heart and influence of Uncle Ho towards activities of the people’s armed forces through different periods of time.

The exhibition also displays sketches on good examples, and role model fighter which is aimed at honouring them in a timely and effective manner. These works have been resulted from field trips to army’s units.

On the theme of the armed forces, many works reflect the battlefields, arms and services. Quang Tri Citadel by Nguyen Van Chuyen, Mother of Martyrs by Tran Tu Thanh, Footprints of Soldiers by Nguyen Tuong Linh, Naval Sapper by Nguyen Phuc Tung are among the typical ones.

The impression the exhibition has brought to the public once again shows the vitality of the traditional theme of art with unceasing discovery and creativity of Vietnam fine arts.
