VietNamNet Bridge - The HCM City Theatre Company celebrated its 50th anniversary at the Labor Theatre in district 1 Saturday.

The anniversary party welcomed Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of HCMC People’s Committee, officials, and generations of actors and actress.

Since its founding 50 years ago, the HCMC Theatre Company has contributed to the development of dramatics in the city in particular and across the country as a whole.

It began with a troupe of only ten actors and actresses, but today the company has nearly 100 actors and actresses. This year alone it has attracted 50,000 theatre-goers over 60 performances.

Besides the performances at the Labor Theatre, the Company has held various tours to entertain people in remote areas. The Company is currently carrying out a project, ‘Voice of the Children’, in cooperation with the International Theatre Institute, to entertain homeless and disadvantaged children in the city and other provinces.
