VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnamese contestant at the Miss World 2008 beauty pageant said the grey, hermetic gown that she wore in the Top Model fast track was provided by the organising board.

Ly said she was unlucky to have been assigned that gown. She took many night gowns designed by famous Vietnamese designer Cong Tri to South Africa but according to the rules, contestants had to wear dresses designed by local designers in the Top Model competition.

Thien Ly was provided a grey, stretch gown, which didn’t support her beauty at all. “The gown was a little bit dark and made from rigid cloth so it hindered me from moving gently,” she said.

Ly will wear a special gown by Cong Tri named “The Gown of Love” on the final night. The Vietnamese contestant plans to wear an ao dai designed by Sy Hoang at the upcoming charity auction on December 6, to which she will bring a landscape embroidery painting for auction.

Ly praised landscapes in South Africa. She said the most memorable event so far was the Miss World Golf event. The best golfers (Miss UK, Miss Germany, Miss Scotland, Miss Vietnam and Miss Paraguay) were transported to a mountain peak by helicopter to play golf. Miss Paraguay won the Miss World Golf title while Thien Ly had the longest drive of over 400 yards. While she was on the mountain peak, other contestants cheered by shouting “Vietnam, Vietnam”.

Thien Ly’s parents will go to South Africa on December 10 to cheer on their daughter. They will bring some T-shirts with Vietnamese flags to South Africa at Thien Ly’s request as gifts for other contestants before saying goodbye to each other.
