VietNamNet Bridge – The austereness of a Hue city woman, illustrated through Hong Anh’s acting in the movie titled “Moon in the bottom of the well,” was highly appreciated by the Jury of the International Dubai Film Festival and brought the “Best Actress” award to Vietnam.

The winners of the International Dubai Film Festival were announced on the official website of the festival this morning. This is the first time a Vietnamese actress has won the Best Actress award at a reputed international film festival.

Based on a short story by Tran Thuy Mai, “Moon in the bottom of the well” describers the tragedy of a modern Vietnamese family. Hanh (played by Hong Anh) is a Hue woman who loves and is dedicated to her husband, but experiences suffering pains because of him.

The movie was shot in Hue City in June 2007 and finalized in France in mid-2008, directed by Nguyen Vinh Son. The movie participated in the Busan Film Festival in South Korea this October.

There are two categories of awards presented at the Dubai International Film Festival: awards for Arab films and for Asian – African films. This year the festival welcomed 186 movies from 66 countries.

In the category for Asian-African film, the Best Film award belonged to Treeless Mountain (South Korea). Actor Askhat Kuchinchirekov won the Best Actor award for his role in “Tulpan” (Kazakhstan).

The 5^th Dubai International Film Festival took place in Dubai from December 11-19.
