Vietnamese photographic artists should be proud of their achievements

For the first time in Vietnam, an exhibition of 15 internationally-renowned photographic artists is now held. Photographic artist Tay Poey Cher from Singapore, talked with Nhan Dan Online reporter.

FIAP is happy and grateful to Vietnam for organising the first exhibition in Asia showcasing the works of M.FIAP photographic artists. Recent F. FIAP exhibitions held in Europe were organised by Serbia and Croatia. In South America it was organised by Argentina. I am sure that the Masters photographers invited for this show will feel a sense of pride and honour to have their works exhibited in Vietnam, which will be the venue of the 30th FIAP Congress in 2010.

Can you tell us about the artistic styles of works on display at this exhibition?

The photos on display are varied in styles. You can see some are portraits, some feature landscape and some use technical enhancement but generally all are beautiful and lively, bearing deep philosophy of human life through artists’ experiences

So what’s the world photographic trend at the moment do you think?

Bass-rock.

Nowadays, many photographers, particularly the youngster use the digital technology to make their works more contemporary. They just use the camera to capture the facts and figures and after that the photos are processed with laptop or computer. With only a click of the mouse, the artist can change the exposure or the colour and that’s the way they want to explore new art forms.

Can it be said that Vietnamese photography is now integrated into the world trend?

Vietnamese photographers are quite good. In recent years, Vietnamese photographic artists have participated in many international exhibitions organised by countries in different parts of the world. Many of their interesting images have won the top international awards and they should be justifiably proud of their achievements.

Do you think that the exhibition will open more chances for Vietnamese photography to integrate further in to the world?

Yes, it surely provides an excellent opportunity for them to appreciate the different styles and techniques that have been successfully employed by these famous photographic artists in creating images of high aesthetic values. I am sure that it will also be a source of inspiration for those who are keen to pursue photography as an art form.

Is this your first time in Vietnam? Are you going to make a photo collection on our country?

Yes, this is my first time in Vietnam. Vietnam has many wonderful landscapes. We are going to arrange field trips to explore the charms and beauty of Hanoi and Ha Long Bay. I will not surely miss the chance to make a collection.
