Vietnamese singers Nguyen Vu (L) and Phi Nhung

Two Vietnamese pop singers will perform in a TV series produced by Vietnam and China starting early next month, producers said Tuesday.

The singers Nguyen Vu and Phi Nhung will leave for China early in January and stay for two months to film the Hong Kong historical drama comedy “Lawyer Chan Mong-Gut.”

Filming for the series about a famous Chinese lawyer during the Qing Dynasty in early 20th century will start on January 3.

The character was made widely popular to Asian audiences by a 1997 comedy film “Lawyer, Lawyer” starring megastars Stephen Chow and Karen Mok.

Thirty-six 50 minute episodes of the new drama will be made in China and four in Vietnam.

The series, which costs around US$2 million, is co-produced by Vietnam Feature Film Studio,

Vietnam’s Nghiep Thang Company and a Hong Kong-based communication company.

It is expected to be on Guangdong Television next year.

Two other Vietnamese singers, Nguyet Hang and Tuan Khang, also have minor roles.
