VietNamNet Bridge – Vu Thanh Nghi graduated as first laureate of the Painting Faculty of Hanoi Art University in 1998 and all but disappeared from the art scene, but reports of his demise were exaggerated.

Many people who study very well at art school fade quickly because of little inner ability or because they have to earn a living. Nghi was thought had fallen among these.

In the past ten years, Nghi has been involved in many jobs to support his family and rarely participated in a painting contest or an exhibition. Suddenly, this year he has opened two solo exhibitions, both praised for their quality.

5, 2009). The exhibition showcases 20 oil paintings of various topics, but they share a similarity: Both men and objects in these paintings look like they are curved, cut, or manufactured by metal.

In early April, Nghi gave an exhibition named “Return” at 31A Van Mieu, Hanoi, with around ten paintings about trance ceremonies in the cubist style.

The underway exhibition is called “The Walk of Souls”.
