VietNamNet BridgeA veteran British photographer, who become famous during the war in Indochina for his work, is exhibiting and selling prints of his photos at HCM City’s Cepage restaurant.

The innocents in war: A war time photo taken by Tim Page on sale at Cepage restaurant in HCM City.

Dozens of large and mediumsized photos taken by Tim Page depict the atrocities of war in Viet Nam and Cambodia in the last century.

Now in his mid-60s, the photographer this week signed photos and shared experiences about his craft with viewers at the show.

Because of a recent illness and financial woes, Page said he must earn money so he could have an uninterrupted period of time to write a book that he hopes to complete within a few months.

The book, titled The Eagle Has Landed, includes sections on Australia and on Page’s return to Viet Nam.

“Good pictures do not need captions,” he said, pointing to the photos hung without explanatory notes on the restaurant’s wall. “If they can reach a viewer’s spirit, they’ve done their job.”

Seweryn Zeiazny, a German student of photography who is working on a documentary project in Viet Nam, said that he admired Page’s works for their truthfulness about war.

Juergen Wormser, general manager of a joint-venture in Binh Duong Province who attended the show, said the photos provoked “a moment of silence”.

The show at Cepage at 22 Le Thanh Ton Street in District 1 will end on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the progress of the sale.
