Lookatvietnam - On the occasion of Lunar New Year (Tet), Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, with the partial support of the Danish Regional and Ethnic Culture Fund, celebrates the “Enjoying the Year of the Buffalo” programme.

Lookatvietnam - On the occasion of Lunar New Year (Tet), Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, with the partial support of the Danish Regional and Ethnic Culture Fund, celebrates the “Enjoying the Year of the Buffalo” programme.

Various programme take place on January 29, 30, 31 and February 1 and will open at 9.00 am on January 29.

Special evening events, including fireworks and water puppet show will take place at 7.30 pm on January 29, 2009.

With the aim of introducing to the public the most unique culture of some ethnics, the museum will bring to the audiences the shows of Viet ethnic with 100 ways of making fun, water puppetry, Dong Ho picture printing, calligraphy; Thai ethnic with Xoe and Sap dances; Hmong ethnic with “Khen” dancing and with musical sounds made by lips.

Audiences to the museum on the occasion will also have a chance to make toys for themselves as they are instructed to make buffalo mask, shape buffalo from soil, coloured dough or leaves, sand picture of buffalo, etc.

They can also join games such as soil firecracker, swing, pulling games, back pushing, stick pushing (of Viet ethnic); Con throwing, To ma le, En Cay (of Thai ethnic); Pao throwing ( of Hmong ethnic), etc.
