VietNamNet Bridge – The Hanoi authorities have prepared twenty-seven cultural and musical programs to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet).

The earliest activity will be an international TV show called “Home Spring 2009” organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese and the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the Temple of Literature on the night of January 11.

Two festivals will open on the same day, January 15, with the “Wine – Flower – Cau Doi” (parallel sentences) Festival at the Van Ho Exhibition Centre and the Tet Newspaper Festival at the Hanoi Library, located at 47 Ba Trieu Stret.

On the Lunar New Year’s Eve night, firecracker shows will take place at seventeen places in the capital, including seven in the city and ten in the suburbs, namely Van Quan Lake (Ha Dong), Dong Anh District’s stadium, Soc Son district’s stadium, Son Tay City Children’s Palace, Ha Ba Trung Temple (Me Linh), Xuan Mai Town, Thuong Tin Town, Dai Nghia Town, Tay Dang Town’s stadium, and Bao Son Paradise Park.

A big music show will be held at the Ba Kieu Temple outdoor stage, next to the Hoan Kiem Lake at night.

From January 27 to February 7, Hanoians can join various cultural activities, such as a human chess contest at the Temple of Literature, a circuit show at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc outdoor stage, martial arts and water puppetry shows at the Giam Flower Garden, and an ornamental tree exhibition at Ly Thai To Flower Garden.

The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will combine with local administrations to organize many traditional festivals, such as the Perfume Pagoda festival (My Duc District), the Co Loa Temple festival (Dong Anh District), the Soc Temple festival (Soc Son district), and the Hai Ba Trung Temple festival (Me Linh district).

At the Thang Long ancient citadel, many antiques and craft products from craft villages of Hanoi will be on display from February 1 to April 15.
