The screenplay for the feature film entitled “The singer from the Dragon City” was given the first prize at the Screenplay Award presentation ceremony held by the Department of Cinematography yesterday.

Doan Trieu Long and Kieu Vuong receive first prizes for documentary screenplay and animated screenplay.

The contest launched from February 27 to December 30, 2008 drew 143 screenplays including 79 feature screenplays, 29 screenplays in documentary and science and 35 screenplays in animated film category.

The event is among activities to mark 1000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi.

According to Mr Lai Van Sinh, Head of the Department of Cinematography and the Organising Board, the contest had the participation of many amateur authors beside professional ones. And most of the screenplays showed their good preparations as well as efforts to find new ways in expression.

The prize money for the contest this year was expected to be the biggest ever. The winning feature screenplay was granted VND 85 million while the runner-up got VND 60 million, VND 40 million and VND 20 million went to the third and the fourth place respectively. In documentary, science and animated film categories, the first prize received VND 30 million, the second got VND 25 million and the third took VND 10 million.

Second prize: ’Towards the Sea’ by Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat

Third prize: ’King Le Thanh Tong - The Legend of Thang Long’ by Trinh Thi Anh Thu, ’Fighting in the Fog’ by Chu Lai and ’The Prophet’ by Hoang Nhuan Cam

Animated film:

First prize: ’Đinh Bo Linh’ by Đoan Trieu Long

Second prize: ’The God of Tan Mountain’ by Vu Thi Diep, ’The Special Ticket’ by Diep Van.

Documentary:

First prize: ’Raw Materials’ by Kieu Vuong

Second prize: ’The Steps of Green Revolution’ by Nguyen Thu Tuyet, ’Fire Lighter’ Nguyen Nhu Vu, ’The Pottery Road’ by Trung Phuong.
