VietNamNet Bridge – The final night of the Vietnamese Song 2008, a reputed song writing contest held by the national Vietnam Television (VTV), will take place on January 17.

The awards ceremony will be held on January 18 at the Hanoi-based Friendship Cultural Palace and aired live on VTV3 channel.

With eight shows a month, the Vietnam Song 2008 contest introduced 56 brand new songs which drew praise from audiences.

The best 15 songs will compete for the title “Song of the Year”. Among these songs, eight won the “Song of the Month” title, four won the “Most Favourite Song of the Month” (voted by the audience) and four were praised by the jury.

These songs belong to various genres, from rock to jazz, pop, R&B, world music to contemporary folk.

There are five rock songs, including three alternative rock works, namely “Dark Corner” by Nguyen Hai Phong, “Call me Hanoi” by Trinh Minh Hien and “Green Jasmine” by Tina Tinh, one pop rock “You in My Eyes” by Nguyen Duc Cuong, and one progressive rock “Take a wife” by Ngu Cung.

There are also five rock songs, namely: “Song of Love” by Thanh Vuong, “Tottering” by Le Cat Trong Ly, “Wonderful Things” by Jazzy Da Lam, “Fire-fly Night” by Dai Nhan and Thang Long, and “Spring Sings” by An Hieu.

Other music genres are each represented by one song, “Lighted Lamp” by Duc Nghia (contemporary folk), “Afternoon Street” by Thanh Vuong (country), “Tiny” by Sa Huynh (world music), “Old Street” by Nguyen Duy Hung (funk jazz), and “You Will Be a Dream” by Luu Thien Huong (R&B).

The organisers will present 12 awards: Song of the Year, Outstanding Pop Song, Outstanding Rock Song, Outstanding Instrumental Song, Effective Music Mixer, Impressive Musician, Creatively Experimental Musician, Most Favorite Song, Most Favorite Singer, Promising Musician, Creative Musician and Dedication.

Singers who will perform at the two events are Hai Phong, Ngoc Khkue, Y Garia, Toc Tien, Manh Ninh, Duc Cuong, Thuy Chi, Hoang Hai, Dai Nhan, To Minh Duc, Hai Yen, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Le Cat Trong Ly and Ngu Cung rock band.

In the first year, a contemporary folk song by Le Minh Son won the “Song of the Year” title. A dance music work by Vo Thien Thanh won the title in the second year and again a contemporary folk song by Luu Ha An was honoured in the third year.
