Tuy Loan village communal house festival; Lanterns auctioned for the poor; Fashion designer attend int’l young fashion businesspeople

To celebrate the tenth year of recognition of the communal house of Tuy Loan village, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang City, as a national cultural relic, the local authorities organized the Tuy Loan Village Communal House Festival on February 2-3. The event attracted thousands of local residents and visitors.

Tuy Loan is an ancient village of more than 500 years. The village was set up by five mandarins under King Le Thanh Tong’s dynasty.

The communal house was built in 1889 to worship the village’s tutelary god and the five mandarins. The house still preserves five title conferring decisions by the Nguyen Dynasty.

Lanterns auctioned for the poor

The first lantern festival to celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday and the 79^th birthday of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in the ancient town of Hoi An, closed on February 4.

During the festival, 79 large-sized lanterns were displayed in the statue garden of An Hoi from January 25 to February 4.

After the festival, the best lanterns were hung on Hoai River, Hoi An streets and at the Hoi An Folk Cultural Museum to introduce the lantern-making technique of Hoi An artisans to visitors.

Three special lanterns, named “Heritage inside the ancient town,” “Moon Street,” and “Bridge Pagoda” will be auctioned to raise money for the poor on the evening of February 8.

Fashion designer attend int’l young fashion businesspeople

Female fashion designer Ho Tran Da Thao, who won the first prize of the International Young Fashion Businesspeople Contest, held by the British Council in Vietnam last October will go to Britain on February 7 to participate in the International Young Fashion Businesspeople 2009.

During the trip, which will last until February 21, Da Thao will compete with nine contestants from India, Indonesia, Thailand, Sri Lanka and others.
