Vietnam Cable Television’s Let’s Viet (VTC9) channel will broadcast the 81st Academy Awards live next Monday morning.

It’s the first time that VTC9 has bought the rights to screen the show, which will be broadcast live by ABC from Los Angeles’s Kodak Theater. Last year, VTV9 owned by Vietnam Television bought the rights.

The channel has been playing a range of different programs including two separate talk shows hosted by award-winning actress Hong Anh and model Binh Minh in the lead up to Oscar night.

Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that presents the annual awards, made an announcement early this month that the Oscars this year will be quite different from others.

“It’s going to be a show that takes some risks,” Ganis said.

He said categories at this year’s ceremony will be presented in a much different way.

The three-hour ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. on February 23 (Vietnam time).
