Eight-member Macedonian group Synthesis performs along with Vietnamese artists at a concert in HCM City on Feb. 28.

They play folk and modern music in what has become a popular blend among young people everywhere called “world music”.

The group’s three vocalists, Aneta Shulankovska, Bilyana Ristovska, and Miryana Yoshevska, sing melodious Macedonian traditional tunes with support from the HCM City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra.

The concert is led by Vietnamese conductor Le Phi Phi, who works for Illija Nikolovski-Luj, a famous ballet and opera centre in Macedonia.

Phi, who graduated from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, also worked as a conductor for the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra.

Synthesis, formed in 1995, has performed in Israel, France, Italy, Japan, and Australia, introducing Macedonian folk music to the world.
