Some film projects for 2009 have been declared.

Johnny Tri Nguyen and Ngo Thanh Van.

Model, singer and actress Ngo Thanh Van and Vietnamese-American actor Johnny Tri Nguyen will kick off their own movie, invested in by Chanh Phuong Film, this March or April.

Ngo Thanh Van said the script was written by Johnny Tri Nguyen. The title has not been disclosed yet and Chanh Phuong is choosing a director. The film is scheduled to come out in Christmas 2009.

Reputed film director Luu Trong Ninh announced he will make a feature film, entitled Mui Co Chay (Smell of burnt grass), featuring war martyrs Nguyen Van Thac, Dang Thuy Tram and Hoang Thuong Lan.

“Lieutenant”, a movie by director Ha Son, which roused public opinion for its “hot” scenes, will be released this year.

Directors Nguyen Thanh Van and Do Minh Tuan are busy with some TV series. After “Little Heart”, Nguyen Thanh Van started working on a TV series named “Leu Chong” (Tent and bamboo camp-bed) for the TFS firm in late 2008. This movie project was being prepared for a long time before.

Do Minh Tuan has just finished a six-episode TV series entitled “Trau Vang” (Gold buffalo) for the HCM City Television (HTV).

The US’s Bigfoot bought writer Nguyen Manh Tuan’s “Nuoc Mat Phuong Xa” (Tears from afar) script. It is beingt checked by directors Michael Gleissner and Fredrick Bailey to develop into a movie of the same name at a cost of several million USD.

Director Michael Gleissner came to HCM City to shoot some scenes in late December 2008 with the assistance of the Liberation Film Studio. Vietnamese model Bebe Minh Thuy plays the lead role of Phuong Li. Other Vietnamese actors playing in the film are Chieu Xuan and Luong The Thanh. This movie is expected to come to Vietnamese cinematheques in late 2009.

The BHD Company and the Viet Film Studio have announced they will invest in a musical film. BHD plans to produce 2-3 feature films this year.
