We don’t need a pageant annually to find representatives for international contests, said Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Tien Tho.

The Deputy Minister on March 6 sent a dispatch to reply to RASS Company’s dispatch about the organisation of the Miss World Vietnam 2009 in the US.

According to the dispatch, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism supports this activity. However, this contest will be held in another country, so it is not a national beauty contest of Vietnam. The ministry told RASS to report to the Foreign Ministry and obey the current rules.

The Vice Chief of the Performance Art Agency, Nguyen Dang Chuong, emphasised: RASS doesn’t operate under the Vietnamese Enterprise Law. The new regulation on organising beauty contests in Vietnam doesn’t allow a foreign company to hold a beauty contest abroad in the name of Vietnam.

About the petition of authorities of Khanh Hoa province to amend the rules from “not organising more than one national beauty contest a year” to “not organising more than 2 (or three) national beauty contests a year, except for special cases”, the Chief of the Legal Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Le Anh Tuyen, said the Legal Department will collect and research the feedback and change the regulations when necessary.

Chuong said it is unnecessary to organise a national beauty contest each year to choose representatives for international contests. Vietnam can select its contestants from the winners of previous pageants.
