Being praised at the 4th International Dubai Film Festival, director Vinh Son’s “Moon at the Bottom of the Well” is not popular in Vietnam. This absurdity happens for many Vietnamese movies.

Speaking about this, Korean director Park Kwoang Soo said that a movie can be distributed in various forms at box offices, on TV or through DVDs. It can be successful in this market and fail in others.

“Moon at the Bottom of the Well” won the highest prize at the Golden Kite Awards of the Vietnamese Movie Association but it can come to a small number of Vietnamese audiences through free shows.

Director Vinh Son said he has received several invitations to bring this film to international film festivals so he hasn’t widely distributed the movie in Vietnam yet.

“With more prizes, the distribution will be better,” he added.

Director Bui Trong Hai is going to introduce “When Autumn Sunlight Comes” to the International Vietnam Movie Festival in the US. This film has been sent to several international film festivals but in Vietnam, it is not a hit.

After being introduced for the first time over one year ago, this movie fell out of popularity. It suddenly won the Remi Award at the International Houston 2008 Film Festival.

Other Vietnamese movies have the same fate, such as “Sandy Life,” “Littler Heart,” and “Black Forest.” All of these films won international awards but are neglected at home.

People’s Artist and famous movie director Dang Nhat Minh said each film has its own fans. Some movies may be very popular at the beginning and will be forgotten after that. There are some others that are not blockbuster but are still watched after a dozen of years.

He quoted an example with his own movie entitled “When will the 10^th Month Come?” This work was produced over two decades ago. It was sent to many international film festivals and served a huge number of audiences. It is still a movie that is worthy to watch in present day.

“Real works always have their audience,” the director confirmed.
