3rd Vietnamese folk song festival

The festival will take place from April 5 to May 24 in six regions: the northern delta and midland region, the northern mountainous region, the Central Highlands, the northern part of the central region, and southern part of the central region and the southern region.

The festival will include two stages. The first will be held in all provinces and cities to choose the best items for the second stage, six regional final nights in six regions.

All regional finals will be broadcast live on VTV3 channel on April 5, April 12 and April 26, May 3, May 10 and May 24.

On each final night, the organising board will present two first prizes, four second prizes and six third prizes.

Winning songs will be aired on the radio and TV subsequently.

Belgium singer and two free shows for children

A famous singer from Belgium who primarily sings songs for children, Gibus, will give two shows in Hanoi on March 20 at the Hanoi Opera House and March 21 at the Vietnam National Institute.

Singing for more than 40 years, Gibus sings humorous songs about family life and the colours of life.

His songs have polished and meaningful lyrics with both entertaining and educational aspects.

The singer has an ability to attract kids to his jolly dances so he is admired by children in many countries, from Belgium, France, Switzerland to South Africa.

Vietnamese artists join reputed Japanese exhibition

Nguyen Dinh Dang’s painting “Disappearance”, which won Japan’s prestigious Sompo Award, is now on display at the 28th exhibition for outstanding painting talents at the Sompo Art Museum in Japan.

“Disappearance” is being exhibited alongside 62 artworks by 32 painters and sculptors, all winners of the Sompo Award.

Painter Nguyen Dinh Dang is living in Japan. He has a PhD of Physics and works at the nuclear physics laboratory of Riken, the leading research institute of acceleration technology in Japan.

“Paper” exhibition

For the first time, three young artists are sharing an exhibition named after the material they use in their artworks, paper.

The three artists, Vu Trung, Tran Cuong and Hung Linh, render contemporary issues of life through 30 works. It is the influence of music on all social classes in Hung Linh’s artworks; the praise of harmonious and warm family life in Vu Trung’s colourful paintings.

Most of the paintings have simple layouts, use water colour and Chinese black ink.

The exhibition opened on March 6 and will close on April 6 at Bookworm, 4B Yen The street, Hanoi.

Free short movies

Three short films produced by independent film producers, namely Devil’s Contract of Nguyen Chi Duc, Night by Nguyen Quang Quyet and Dang Hoang Anh, and Kenn Crew by Kenn Crew group, will be screened at 2pm, March 14, at the Centre for Assisting Movie Talents, 22A Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi.

This is part of a programme entitled “Movie Space” sponsored by the Hubert Bals Fund – Rotterdam to introduce experimental works of young Vietnamese directors.

Directors will talk with audiences after the screenings.
