Gala on Girls Make the World More Wonderful; Vietnamese film to be shown in the US; Children urged to share dreams, opinions; National folk song festival kicks off

A programme Being Girl, Great ! launched by the Diana Viet Nam will close with a gala in HCM City on June 20 with theme Girls Make the World More Wonderful.

A music show Dem Day Sao (Night Full of Stars) kicking off the programme in Ha Noi on Sunday was performed by a number of artists, including Minh Thu, Kasim Hoang Vu, Dang Khoi and Manh Quan. Other activities including a mini film festival, dance show and rock performance also helped kick off the event.

The programme will be launched throughout the country to collect 1 million signatures from participants affirming they are proud to be girls in an effort by the company to increase young women’s self-confidence and enthusiasm.

Vietnamese film to be shown in the US

The film Trang Noi Day Gieng (Moon at the Bottom of the Well), directed by Nguyen Vinh Son, will be shown at US universities in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania from now until April 22 by the Institute of Viet Nam Culture and Education in New York.

It will also be shown at the Viet Nam International Film Festival 2009 in California.

Last year the film was shown at the Dubai International Film Festival where actress Hong Anh won the award for best actress.

The Institute is a non-profit organisation with the aim to boost Vietnamese culture through performances, seminars and art exhibitions. It also publishes Vietnamese press and promotes education exchange between Viet Nam and the US.

Children urged to share dreams, opinions

Primary students throughout the country will have the chance to share their opinions and dreams about life and the world in a painting competition entitled Y Tuong Tre Tho (Idea of Children).

Contestants can enter individually or in a group by sending not more than five paintings to the organising board, Honda Viet Nam Company, at Viet Tower, in Thai Ha Street, Ha Noi, from now to May 30.

National folk song festival kicks off

The Viet Nam Folk Songs Festival 2009 was launched by Viet Nam Television with an aim to preserve and develop folk art and discover new talents.

The third instalment of the festival this year will take place in six locations. The northern delta’s final round will be held in Bac Ninh Province on April 5; in Lam Dong Province in the central highlands on April 12; in the northern central region in Hue city on April 26; in south central Phu Yen Province on May 3; in southern Long An Province on May 10; and the northern province of Bac Can on May 24.
