Japanese artists Nakai Tomoya and Nagasu Tomoka will play traditional music from their homeland in Ho Chi Minh City tomorrow after finishing their two-night gig in Hanoi Tuesday.

The musicians will play traditional instruments like the Koto zither, the Biwa short-neck fretted lute and the Shakuhachi end-blown flute as part of the Japan-Mekong Exchange Year program, said a statement issued Monday by the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City.

The event is the first of the Japan-Mekong Exchange Year activities scheduled for southern Vietnam, the statement said.

The two Japanese artists opened the program in Hanoi on Monday.

The yearlong exchange with Japan, Vietnam and four other Mekong Region countries – Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar – is scheduled to include political dialogues, economic activities, cultural exchanges, tourism promotions and youth exchanges.

The free HCMC show will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Lecture Hall D at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, 221 Nguyen Van Cu Street, District 5.
