The French Cultural Centre in Hanoi (L’Espace) said that the movie entitled “Borderline” will not be screened in Vietnam during this Francophone film festival because it failed to pass censorship.

The Vietnam Cinema Agency’s Do Duy Anh said that “Borderline” has many sex-related scenes, which are inappropriate to Vietnam’s habits and customs.

According to schedule, this film will be introduced to Vietnamese audience at 5:30pm of March 25 and 8:30pm of March 28 at the L’Espace, 24 Trang Tien,, Hanoi. Once it was not approved by the National Film Inspection Council, these shows will be replaced by “Good Cop, Bad Cop” and “Dark Day.”

“Borderline” was produced in 2008 and it brought about the special award of the Toronto Film Festival’s Jury for the Best Canadian film. This movie was also nominated for the 29^th Genie Awards. It is also one of the six best movies of the Angouleme Film Festival.

Based on “Borderline” and “The Gap” by Marie-Sissi Labreche, the movie is about a girl named Kiki. Her mother was imprisoned, and Kiki grew up in a poor street in Montreal, educated by her grandmother. Her only joyfulness is school. By the age of 30, sex and wine become Kiki’s daily habits.

The Francophone Film Festival will take place in Hanoi from March 16-28, introducing 14 movies from nine French-speaking countries and territories, including Vietnam, Canada, Greece, Switzerland, Romania, Belgium, Algeria, and France.

Free tickets are available at the Vietnam Cinema Association, 51 Tran Hung Dao street, and the French Cultural Centre at 24 Trang Tien, Hanoi.

The festival is part of the program to celebrate International Francophone Day on March 20, organized by the Wallonie – Brucxells delegation in the three cities of Hue city, HCM City, and Hanoi.

The festival will move from Hanoi to HCM City, and to Hue City.
