Fine arts exhibition raises funds for ca tru singing

A contemporary fine arts exhibition Hoi Tu (Convergence) has been opened at Nguyen Trai University, 266 Doi Can Street, Ha Noi to raise funds for ca tru (ceremonial singing) development.

The exhibition, which runs until March 16, has 40 paintings from famous artists around the country on display.

In a letter to the university, vice president Nguyen Thi Doan says the exhibition will help develop ca tru, which is important because the art form is being submitted to UNESCO for recognition as an intangible cultural heritage of humankind.

Art festival to feature the Ho Chi Minh Trail

An art festival with the theme of Truong Son – legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail will be held on March 28-31 in the southern province of Binh Phuoc to commemorate 50 years since the Ho Chi Minh Trail opened.

The festival is being hosted to praise the patriotism and bravery of the people during the war against the US.

Pop star My Le to give live Women’s Day performance

Pop star My Le will commemorate 10 years of performing with her liveshow My Le in Symphony on Women’s Day (March 8) at the HCM Municipal Theatre.

Le will the songs, which made her famous in the first part of the concert, and then sing music popular before the war. The programme will end up with popular opera vignettes.

Artists such as Thu Minh, Duc Tuan, AC&M band and the HCM City Ballet and Symphony Orchestra will perform at the concert as Le’s honoured guests.

International Week to improve cultural exchange

Viet Nam International Week 2009 will take place in HCM City from now to Women’s Day on March 8, bringing students together from the HCM City University of Social Sciences and Humanity with students from Japan, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Germany and Israel.

Foreign students will learn about Vietnamese history and culture through various activities. There will be a city tour, a cooking day and a history day for the students to learn about the city and its cooking.

Students will also have a chance to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels, Vung Tau city and My Tho city in order to see firsthand different living styles in different regions.

Most Beloved MC competition launched

Truyen Hinh (Television) magazine has launched 2009’s Most Beloved MC (Master of Ceremony) competition to help find and recognise new talents.

Audiences can watch MCs in action on various programmes and send in their votes to the magazine from March to December. The organising board will offer prizes for most promising MC, most expressive MC and MC taking pain for high-quality programmes.
