Researcher Nguyen Dinh Dau has received the “Research Award 2008” from the Phan Chau Trinh Cultural Foundation for his contributions to geographic and historical sciences.

Nguyen Dinh Dau was born in 1920. He graduated from the Hanoi Arts and Crafts School in 1941 and the Sorbonne University in France in 1953.

He is the author of many research works, books and articles which have been published in Vietnamese, French and English. The most outstanding works are research works about land and mapping.

He is the owner of the largest collection of maps in Vietnam.

The Research Award is an annual prize presented by the Phan Chau Trinh Cultural Foundation to Vietnamese who have done outstanding research in the fields of social sciences and humanities.

Previously, the foundation announced it would present its International Education Quintessence Award 2008 to the group of translators of two books, Democracy and Education by John Dewey (USA), and Emile or about Education by Jean-Jacques Rousseau; and the Vietnamese Studies Award 2008 to two researchers, Dr. David G. Marr, Australian, and Dr. Yumio Sakurai, Japanese.

This is the first time the Research and Vietnamese Studies Award has been presented. The awards ceremony for the three above prizes will take place on March 27 at the French Cultural Centre in Hanoi.
