VietNamNet Bridge – A special programme named “A Powerful Noise” was broadcast in the US on March 5 on the occasion of International Women’s Day, introducing a documentary of the same name about outstanding women in the world.

This programme, featuring many charity activists, was also screened at many box offices in the US.

One of the three main characters of the movie is a Vietnamese woman named Bui My Hanh. Hanh is an HIV carrier whose husband and child died of AIDS.

Hanh isn’t waiting for death and bemoaning her fate. She is helping other women protect themselves against HIV through the Hoa Bat Tu (Immortal Flower) group in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The two other characters in the movie are Jacqueline Dembele from Mali, who struggles for the right of women to study, and Nada Markovic, who has been helping Serbian women to recover their lives since the civil war.

“A Powerful Noise” programme was produced by Fathom, CARE and ONE, with the participation of former US Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright and Nicholas Kristof of the New York Times.
