Paintings by blind students enrolled in a special art class will show in Hanoi through April 30

An exhibition of sculptures and paintings by blind art students opens today at the 29 Hang Bai Street Exhibition House in Hanoi.

Anh sang tu ban tay, or “Hands Full of Light,” presents hundreds of sculptures and 30 paintings by students from the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Junior High for the Blind through Thursday next week.

Sculptor Dao Ngoc Huynh said the sculptures were a success.

“The students have proved their talents; many well-known sculptors are very impressed.”

The students began sculpting as part of a special class sponsored at the school by the Lions Club International and Swedish sculptor Elisabeth Persson.

Persson visited the school in 2006. At that time, the school only offered painting. Persson recognized the students’ potential and began organizing the special sculpting class.
