If the scheme is approved, it will be the first time that Vietnam hosts an international film festival, attracting the participation of many countries in the region and the world.

Based on its advantages in terms of audience and film production, HCM City will be chosen to host this event.

According to the Chairman of the Vietnam Cinema Association Tran Luan Kim, the festival should be held in 2010, on the occasion of the 1,000^th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi. However, owing to some reasons, the scheme has not been completed yet so the festival will be held after 2010.
