Hoc works on a piece calligraphy

Eastern calligraphy is no longer just for eastern languages.

Vu Dang Hoc now writes English words, phrases and poems using the tools of Vietnamese calligraphy, his life’s passion.

He calls the new form West-East Calligraphy, or W.E.C. for short. He says it mixes the fundamental visual principles of both the English and Vietnamese written languages and the cultures that gave birth to them.

Essentially, Hoc and other artists in the W.E.C. Movement write English using the same calligraphic strokes they use when writing Vietnamese calligraphy.
