A portrait exhibition named “Luxury”, introducing paintings by Vu Dan Tan and some kids, opened on April 1 at Natasha, marking the return of a reputed gallery at 30 Hang Bong street, Hanoi.

A portrait by Thao Nguyen, 10 years old.

Natasha was very famous in the 1990s. The owner of this small gallery was painter Vu Dan Tan and his Russian wife Natalia Kraevskaia.

A decade ago, Natasha was the sponsor of many young talented painters like Nguyen Nhu Y, Nguyen Minh Thanh, Nguyen Quang Huy, and Nguyen Van Cuong. The gallery was closed for four years.

The opening of “Luxury” is an anticipated event in the art circle because it marks the revival of a familiar address of painting lovers.

According to painter Vu Dan Tan, the new manager of Natasha is Le Thanh Thu, a graduate of the Industrial Arts University.

“I and Natasha are advisors to Thu. Salon Natasha, under Thu’s policy, will introduce artworks by young artists, art students and even teenagers,” he said.

The first exhibition after four years at Natasha presents 80 portraits by child painters and 10 by Vu Dan Tan. The exhibition offers different views of the two generations.

Kids whose paintings are displayed at this exhibition are students at the Co Xinh Painting Centre run by painter Pham Binh Chuong, a lecturer at the Vietnam Art University.

“Their paintings are very nice, very lively and natural. I agree with Dan Tan when he said that they deserve to be called small artists and to have their own exhibition,” said Natasha.

The gallery’s manager Le Thanh Thu said that this gallery will organise an exhibition a month. After this portrait exhibition, the topics will be fashion, photography, and pop art.

The exhibition will be open until April 15.
