Performers of ca tru, a traditional form of Vietnamese singing, will entertain an international forum on historic urban landscapes in Hanoi today.

Local and foreign visitors to the meeting will enjoy the ca tru or hat a dao (Maiden singing) at 87 Ma May Street in Hoan Kiem District, one of Hanoi’s Old Quarter historic houses, until Thursday.

Ca tru originated during the Ly Dynasty (1010- 1225). The music was first performed in sacred ceremonies and rituals and then adopted as popular entertainment in the 20th century.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has applied for UNESCO to recognize the music an endangered intangible cultural heritage.

The 12th International Seminar Forum UNESCO - University and Heritage, which began Sunday and lasts until Friday, will focus on discussing the importance, integrity and preservation of historic urban landscapes.
