Ho Chi Minh Museum has recently received ‘The Tale of Kieu’ which is a gift from President Ho Chi Minh to former German journalist Franz Faber.

The Tale of Kieu, a gift from President Ho Chi Minh to German journalist, now presented to Ho Chi Minh Museum.

Former German journalist had the gift from President Ho Chi Minh when he visited Vietnam in 1955 at the invitation of President Ho.

The above mentioned Tale of Kieu includes two volumes with 471 pages. The book was published in 1951 in Vietnamese - French bilingual language.

Franz Faber and his wife had spent years to translate ‘The Tale of Kieu’ into German and introduced it to German people. For the past 50 years, Faber has kept the book as a valuable thing, but now he wanted to return the book to the Vietnamese people. Therefore, in early April, through the Embassy of Germany, he presented the book to the Ho Chi Minh Museum.

In his letter to the Vietnamese Embassy, the 92 year old man said though he has lived in many countries, he has the deepest feelings for Vietnam and he loves to recall his fine memories of the Asian country.

In 1954, when peace was restored in the northern part of Vietnam, Faber led a group of journalists from the former Democratic Republic of Germany to visit Vietnam . During the trip, he met President Ho Chi Minh on several occasions. Once the President handed Faber two volumes of ‘the Tale of Kieu’, saying, “Maybe you could do something with these books.”

Two years ago, Franz Faber also presented the Ho Chi Minh Museum with Ho Chi Minh films and photos, which he took when he was a correspondent in Hanoi.
