LookAtVietnam – The final round of the 2009 Green Painting Contest took place at Minh Sang Plaza in Binh Duong Province on Sunday attracting almost 300 young contestants.

Nguyen Van Hoang (L) age 6, a deaf pupil, with his friends in District 6’s Hope School, draws on a pot.

Among the contestants aged 4 to 15, over 40 came from HCMC open houses, warm houses and centers for handicapped children. The children spent the morning painting Minh Long I Co. pots which are used as decoration in the Minh Sang Plaza. The pots will be glazed over four days, baked for six days and then the judges will grade the finished products.

Held since 1998, this year’s contest was expanded to include the two arts of drawing on pottery and ao dai (Vietnamese traditional white dress). Ly Ngoc Minh, director of Minh Long I Co., told the Daily that he decided to help organize the contest in order to give the children another playground besides painting on paper, help find new talent and enhance creativity in children.

Minh Sang Plaza reserves a corner for those who love drawing on pottery.

The Green Painting Contest is an annual drawing contest for children aged 4 to 15 held by the HCMC General Sciences Library under the guidance of the HCMC Department of Training and Education and the HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This year’s program is organized by the HCMC General Sciences Library in cooperation with Saigon Times Group, Saigon Times Foundation, TTT Company, Minh Long 1 Co. and the Y Ngoc Sy Hoang Gallery.
