Two internationally famous artists - cellist Jussi Makkonen and pianist Rait Karm - will perform the works of Jean Sibelius at the L’Espace in Hanoi on May 20.

Jussi Makkonen, 30, came into public notice in Finland when he won the national Finnish music contest in 1996. Since then, Jussi has been a cellist in demand, both in Finland and abroad.

He has performed in many of the world’s most illustrious venues including the Musikverein in Vienna, the Royal Albert Hall in London and, the Concert Hall in Stockholm.

Jussi has performed with internationally renowned orchestras like the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Gustav Mahler-Orchestra. A year before he finished his Master of Music degree in 2004, Jussi began teaching cello at the Helsinki Institute of Music.

Thirty-seven-year old Rait Karm graduated with a master’s degree in music from the famous Sebelius Academy in 2000. He has also been awarded prizes in competitions for young pianists in Czechoslovakia and Estonia.
