The “In a City” exhibition tells everyday stories of Hanoi as seen through the eyes of 13 British and Vietnamese artists who’ve been wandering the capital city with cameras and audio recorders for the last three months.

Six teams of writers and photographers, including three Britons and 10 Vietnamese, drew their inspiration from James Joyce’s “Dubliners” – a collection of 15 short stories depicting the Irish middle class’s search for national identity and purpose in and around Dublin in the early 1900s.

The artists have captured Hanoi’s teeming streets, colorful lives and captivating history in a series of textured multi-media presentations and art installations at the capital’s Exhibition and Information Center.

The works employ photography, prose and sound and video recordings. A book and an eBook documenting the works have also been published.

“In a City” is part of the British Council’s Creative Cities project, which the council’s deputy director

Simon Beardow said aims to promote the role of the arts in socio-economic development.

The exhibition will run until Thursday evening at 45 Trang Tien Street.
