Leading music artists to perform; TV show to link ASEAN countries; Ethnology Museum celebrates kids; Dong Ho paintings go online; Israeli music quartet to visit

Leading artists in Viet Nam and the world, including bassist Paul Langosh, guitarist Mario Trane, singer Arlene Estrella and singer Thanh Lam, will perform at HCM City Conservatory of Music tomorrow.

The show will be directed by Le Thanh Hai who was successful in high-end sound with his album Shadow in the Dark.

TV show to link ASEAN countries

A programme entitled Duyen Dang Truyen Hinh (Charming Television) ASEAN HCM City 2009 will be produced tomorrow at Dai Nam tourist area, in the southern province of Binh Duong.

Twenty female artists from Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Viet Nam will participate in the programme.

The show will be broadcast live on HTV of HCM City Television. Guangxi TV will carry the full show on June. The aim is to connect to ASEAN countries.

After HCM City, five big cities of ASEAN countries will be the host of the programme in this year.

Ethnology Museum celebrates kids

The festival of children will be held at Viet Nam Ethnology Museum, Nguyen Van Huyen St, Ha Noi, this weekend, with the theme Vietnamese Children and International Friends, to mark International Children’s Day (June 1).

Children will play folk games from Viet Nam, the Netherlands, Iran, Thailand, China, South Korea and Indonesia.

Traditional clothes from South Koreas, Japan and Indonesia and Australian marionette will be introduced.

Children will join in making toys, such as figurines, and book marks in the shape of traditional clothes from many countries. They will also make animals from sea shells.

Dong Ho paintings go online

A website on Dong Ho paintings has been launched by two students to provide images of 100 paintings, greeting cards, wood blocks, folk games and articles.

The idea of founding www.maudantoc.com came to Tran Van Binh when he visited Dong Ho village with the website’s co-founder Do Huy Toan.

They exchanged ideas with the veteran painters and collected material for the website.

They pair paintings from two of the painters, Nguyen Dang Che and Nguyen Huu Sam.

Israeli music quartet to visit

Four music students aged 14-15 from Israel’s Arts Thelma Yellin High School will perform free for the public at Minh’s Jazz Club, 31 Luong Van Can Street, Ha Noi, from 9pm next Wednesday.

This is the highlight of their tour to Viet Nam from this Sunday to next Saturday as part of the Israel-Viet Nam cultural exchange programme.

The quartet, led by principal Haim Dajczman, will hold discussions with Vietnamese youth and perform in major cities including Hue city and HCM City.

The group’s repertoire consists of Israeli, original and international pieces, sung in English and Hebrew.
