Two singers perform a traditional folk song at one of the festival’s nights.

VietNamNet Bridge - The final round of the third Vietnamese Folk Song Festival 2009 at Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province, took place Sunday.

The contest included eight troupes from Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Phu Yen provinces.

Audiences were enchanted by 16 features from the colorful cultures of Vietnam and its various ethnic minority groups, such as Cham, K’ho, Raglai, H’re, Ca doong, Ede and Co tu.

Organized by Vietnam TV from April 5 to May 24, the festival has taken place on six different nights in six different regions.

The next night will take place in Long An Province on May 10, and heads for the northern mountainous region in Bac Kan on May 24.

The festival is broadcast live on VTV3.

First prize winners for each night receive VND 5 million (US$281).

Annually organized since 2007, the festival is aimed at preserving cultural values of ethnic minorities and discovering more genres of traditional folk songs.
