Gorgeous 24-year-old singer Mi Tran says fame is not her aim.

Mi Tran just wants to fulfill her dream of performing and dispels any talk that she is after fame at any cost.

“I know it’s strange that an entertainer isn’t hungry for fame. It’s just that I heard stories of the world of glitz and glam from my famous friends that made me think I should take it easy. I just follow my passion for singing, give it my all and do the things I like.”

Her uncle, famed saxophonist Tran Manh Tuan wanted to help her forge a singing career but Tran decided to stand on her own feet.

Despite being new in the music industry, Tran is confident that her singing ability, dance choreography and appearance will make her stand out from other performers. She already has a young fan -base.

“I’m blessed with good looks and a pleasant singing voice and I believe I’ll succeed if I work hard. One will certainly fail if he/she is disheartened,” Tran said.

“I have my own strengths. I want everyone to recognize my voice and not pay too much attention to my body.”

Her attractive face and body and some popular hit songs circulated on the Internet have made Tran into a “hot girl.”

“But I’m not trying to be famous by building the image of a ‘hot girl.’ I want to concentrate and improve my voice and style instead.”

Many know Tran not for her voice but for the appealing photographs she took posing with a motorbike.

Thanks to the photographs, she received several film offers which she declined as they were not suitable for her.

But she has also received a few impolite propositions from men after the photographs were posted on the Internet.

“I was just trying to look sensual in the pictures, not blatantly displaying my body. I can say these are my hottest photos.”

Like many other young female singers who start out in the entertainment industry and rely on a “sponsor” or wealthy individual to fund their career, there are rumors that some of the relationships are more than purely professional - this includes her friendship with composer Truong Le Son.

“I know one can become well-known with assistance and sponsorship. But I don’t want to depend on any unreasonable conditions relating to finance or romantic affairs,” Tran said.

Tran said Son is a good friend and work colleague, so it’s not strange that they are often seen together.

“Some think that my relationship with Son is intended to gain publicity, but I think scandals are a two-edged knife. Fame built on scandals won’t last long because it doesn’t earn real love and respect from the public,” Tran said.

Tran added she lives alone in an apartment in Ho Chi Minh City, but her father lives in the same apartment building and often checks on her.

Tran was born Tran Tra My in Hanoi.

With her parents encouragement she worked as an airline hostess, but she quit the job to concentrate on her singing career.

Her debut album Hay thuoc ve em (Please be mine) featuring nine pop songs portraying a girl’s fragility in love was an instant hit.

Like most popular Vietnamese models and singers, Mi has moved into the television industry. She starred in the TV series Nhung canh hoa bay (Flying flowers) that aired last year.

“My greatest passion is singing. I happened to get the role in the film Nhung canh hoa bay and didn’t expect I would get such a good reaction from audiences. Acting is much harder than singing. I work as a model when I have free time or my friends ask me. My work is really interesting,” Tran said.
