US firm gives $500,000 to poor, students

LookAtVietnam – Rare Antibody Antigen Supply Inc (RAAS) Group, a US plasma maker and regular sponsor of Miss World, will donate about VND9 billion (US$500,000) to help ethnic students and medical patients, donate houses, and organise festivals in 11 provinces and cities.

The fund will be raised through the Charity Foot Programme, with a part used for organising two music shows in Can Tho and Khanh Hoa provinces early next month to raise more funds.

The money raised from the first show will be donated to the Vong Tay Nhan Ai (Merciful Embracing Arms) fund to buy health insurance for people just above the poverty line in 13 provinces and cities in the Cuu Long (Mekong) River Delta.

The money from the second show will be handed over to the Vu A Dinh Scholarship fund to help poor ethnic students.

The shows will feature well-known artists like Lam Truong, Quang Linh, Ho Ngoc Ha, Ho Quynh Huong and dancers from ABC modern dance group.

They will be joined by 2007 Miss World Zhang Zilin, of China, and 2008 Miss World, Russian Ksenia Sukhinova.

Vong Tay Nhan Ai was formed by the Ministry of Health in 2007 to financially assist patients with incurable diseases and poor medical students, and help buy medical equipment for hospitals in remote areas.

The Vu A Dinh Scholarship was established in 1999 to assist ethnic students.
