Belgium’s most famous comic characters are part of an exhibition at the Institute of Culture Exchange with France (IDECAF) on now in Ho Chi Minh City.

“Tintin, Gaston, The Smurfs: The art of Belgian comic books” is showcasing 27 original comic books through June 20.

The exhibition has already toured France, Romania and Hanoi.

Tintin, created by late artist Hergé in 1929, is the main character of the series “The Adventures of Tintin,” which has been a favorite of world wide readers and critics for 80 years.

The Smurfs, or Les Schtroumpfs, the tiny, blue creatures created by Pierre Culliford, better known as Peyo, have mesmerized the world since 1958.

“Gaston,” authored by André Franquin, creator of “Spirou and Fantasio” and “Marsupilami,” focuses on the daily life of the lazy, accident-prone Gaston Lagaffe.

A seminar on the Belgium comic industry was held on Wednesday, a night before the exhibition’s launch at the cultural center (IDECAF), at 31 Thai Van Lung Street, District 1. Admission is free.

The show will tour Hue city in September.
