Singapore’s leading couple, the newly-engaged Christopher Lee (2nd, L) and Fann Wong, speak to the press at the World Comedy Film Festival in Thailand

Two Vietnamese films have entered the World Comedy Film Festival in Bangkok.

Hon Truong Ba da hang thit (Truong Ba’s soul in a butcher’s body) by Director Nguyen Quang Dung and the black and white Dich cuoi (Laughing disease), directed by Do Minh Tuan, have both made their way to the two-week festival, which includes 20 films from Asia, 20 from Europe and 10 from other regions.

Tuan said Dich cuoi, which has screened at several other international film festivals already, is a combination of subtle and profound laughter. “I hope audiences will understand what I want to say.”

Dich cuoi graced the screen Friday while Hon Truong Ba da hang thit will be shown today.

The screenings opened Wednesday with a Singapore-Malaysia coproduction “The Wedding Game,” starring Singapore’s leading actors Fann Wong and Christopher Lee, who were engaged last month.

Among the faces in the crowd at the festival are the Wayans brothers from the US and Hong Kong veteran comedian Richard Ng. Shawn and Marlon Wayans are the team behind the successful parody series “Scary Movie” while Richard Ng is the longtime friend of world famous actor/director Stephen Chow.

Awards for best comedy film, best comedy actor, best short comedy film, and the audience’s choice will be given at the two-week event’s closing ceremony next Tuesday at SF World Cinema.
