Vietnam made its maiden media appearance at a Hollywood world premiere as Miss Vietnam 2006 Mai Phuong Thuy participated in the two-day opening of “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” in Tokyo on Monday.

Su Lee, distribution director of Megastar Media Company – Paramount Pictures’ distribution agency in Vietnam, said the company had made great efforts to get invitations for a Vietnamese delegation to the premiere because Hollywood distributors have not paid much attention to the Vietnamese market thus far.

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” is the sequel to the 2007 blockbuster “Transformers” which was the franchise’s first live-action film, grossing US$708,272,592 in revenues worldwide.

The film continues the adventures of Sam Witwicky and his girlfriend Mikaela Bane, humans stuck in the middle of a war between two factions of transforming robots called Autobots and Decepticons.

The “Transformers” franchise began in 1984 from a toy line from the Hasbro company. The robots, which can turn into everyday machinery like cars or planes, quickly attracted legions of fans, spawning comics, cartoons series and animated movies.

“Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” will begin screening in the UK on June 19 and in North America on June 24. Megastar will release the film in Vietnam on July 3.
