The popular Korean dance performance “Sachoom” comes to Ho Chi Minh City from July 29 to August 2, after an originally scheduled July 5 performance was cancelled earlier.

The renowned show was planned to come to HCMC after touring Hanoi and Da Nang from June 18-28, but was unexpectedly postponed.

“Sachoom,” which means “Dance When You Are in Love,” has been performed more than 1,000 times across South Korea and throughout the world.

Organizers of the production say the show is a form of non-verbal performance art with the core elements of a musical, but focuses mainly on eye-popping dance moves. Known as a “dancical,” Sachoom features a wide range of styles including breakdance, jazz and tango.

Since it premiered in 2004, the show has become South Korea’s biggest theatrical draw, outperforming other famous dance troupes like Nanta and Jump.

Sachoom tells the story of a beautiful girl who is loved by two men and how the three mature into top dancers.

The show was also ranked amongst the top performances out of 2,000 at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Last year, Sachoom claimed first prize at the Korea in Motion Nonverbal Festival held by the Korean Tourism Organization.

Two outdoor shows will be held in front of HCMC’s Hoa Binh Theater on July 29 and 30 before official performances at the theater begin on July 31, promoters said.

Tickets for the show cost between VND100,000-400,000 (US$5.48-23.38) and can be purchased at the theater, located at 14 Ba Thang Hai Street, District 10. Students will receive a 30 percent discount.
