Pianist Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan performs at a dress rehearsal in Ho Chi Minh City.

A Vietnamese piano virtuoso from the renowned Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow will play the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music on August 5.

Twenty-year-old Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan will play Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A Minor and Frederic Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor with the HCMC conservatory’s symphony orchestra under the baton of maestro Do Kien Cuong, promoters said.

Ngan began learning piano at the age of seven at the HCMC conservatory before going to study in Moscow six years later.

Ngan’s renditions of works by Bach, Schubert and Frank List helped her outdo 92 competitors from around the world to take home first prize at last year’s Nikolai Rubinstein International Piano Competition in France.

She went on to win another major competition – the Alexander Scriabin International Piano Competition – also held in France in February.

Information about tickets is available at the conservatory, 112 Nguyen Du Street, District 1 or via phone at (08) 3 822 5841.
