The world-renowned Tokyo New City Orchestra will perform for the first time in Vietnam on July 14 at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.

More than 70 orchestra members will play Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No.3 in collection No.90, a string triptych, and a violin concerto.

Titled “Sound of Nature,” the performance will also feature world-famous blind violinist Kawataba Narimichi.

Tickets to the concert, beginning at 8 p.m., are sold at the door at the HCMC Conservatory of Music, 112 Nguyen Du Street, and cost VND200,000 (US$11).

The Tokyo New City Orchestra was established in 1990 under conductor Akira Naito. The group performs both authentic orchestra music and also remixes pieces for a fresh, modern sound.

The Vietnam performance is part of the Japan-Mekong Exchange Year.

Following the HCMC concert, Japanese orchestra member and royal musician Togi Hideki will share the stage with Hue city royal musicians at a temple in the central town of Hue on July 17.

Tickets for the Hue performance, also part of the Japan-Mekong exchange program, are sold only in Japan and sent as invitations to select Vietnamese officials.
