US filmmakers shoot My Lai massacre movie

American documentary studio ARK Media on July 20 finished its filming of a documentary about the My Lai massacre, which happened 41 years ago in the central province of Quang Ngai.

Mike Bohm is an American veteran who was stationed in Cu Chi so he didn’t participate in the My Lai massacre. However, moved by the event, he annually goes to Quang Ngai in March to play the violin at the Son My statue to wish for peace for the spirits of the 504 civilians killed.

The 90-minute documentary features the My Lai massacre on March 16, 1968 in Tinh Khe commune, Son Tinh district, during which 504 innocent civilians were killed, through stories of the survivors and photos, objects displayed at the Son My relics. The movie also depicts the current peaceful life of Son My’s people.

“From the My Lai massacre, I would like to transfer a message to the young generation in the world today and in the future: let’s get your effort to build a peaceful life,” said director Bard Goodman.

The documentary will be broadcast on many American TV channels and famous channels in Asia, Africa and Europe before coming to Vietnam on the 42nd anniversary of the Son My massacre in March 2010.
