A week to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia will begin in Ho Chi Minh City today.

NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week is celebrated in Indigenous communities, schools, government agencies, local councils, and workplaces around Australia and also by Australian Embassies and Consulates around the world during the first week of July each year.

This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, “Honoring Our Elders, Nurturing Our Youth,” reflects the great contributions made by elders to community life. The theme also encompasses the achievements of elders past and present and looks to the future.

During the week, which ends on July 12, the Australian Consulate-General will hold NAIDOC Week activities at RMIT University Vietnam and Hong Bang

University, and will donate books to the General Sciences Library-Ho Chi Minh City.

This is the third annual NAIDOC Week to be held in HCMC and the 52nd NAIDOC Week in Australia.
