This is the 13^th Vietnamese author nominated for this award.

“Ngoi Nha Xua Ben Suoi” (The old house by stream) comprises seven short stories about mountain men in Co Sau town, Trung Khanh district, in the northern province of Cao Bang, where writer Cao Duy Son was born and grew up.

The short story of the same name won the Vietnamese Writers’ Association Award in 2008.

Cao Duy Son is the chief editor of the Culture Magazine of Ethnic Groups.

Vietnam has participated in the ASEAN Literature Awards since 1996. So far, 12 Vietnamese writers have won this award, namely To Huu (1996), Ma Van Khang (1998), Huu Thinh (1999), Nguyen Khai (2000), Nguyen Duc Mau (2001), Nguyen Kien (2002), Bang Viet (2003), Do Chu (2004), Phu Tram (2005), Le Van Thao (2006), Tran Van Tuan (2007) and Nguyen Ngoc Tu (2008).
