Cannot live without painting

Nguyen Trong Muoi was born in a village in northern Hung Yen Province. Passionate about painting since he was very young, Muoi graduated from Hanoi University of Industrial Fine Arts.

“I cannot live without painting,” Muoi said.

As an interior designer, Muoi has been to many places in Vietnam where, in his free time, he made sketches of women from different regions.

He is confident about the 10 oil paintings he is exhibiting.

“In the previous event, three foreigners bought my canvases at quite a high price,” he said.

“This gave me more motivation and confidence to take part in other shows.”

Cartoonist turns to canvas

Nguyen Ha Bac, a graduate of the Hanoi Arts University, is the director of award-winning animated cartoons - Giac mo cua ech xanh (Green frog’s dream) and Vo chong sao (Mynah husband and wife).

After joining a silk painting exhibition two years ago, Bac began work on a series on horses and has contributed 15 oil paintings to this exhibition. He said his aim was to capture the animals’ strength and energy.

The animator has a part in a TV program which teaches drawing for children.

He said he wants children to understand that art has no limits.

Tranquil paintings

Unlike Ha Bac’s paintings, which are bold and full of movement, Nghiem Ba Huynh’s pieces are peaceful.

His canvases invoke nostalgia and placid feelings.

Huynh often depicts familiar rural scenes of girls cycling to school or lotus flowers in village ponds.
