VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Super Star Contest for Vietnamese girls was kicked off with a press conference in HCM City on August 25.

According to the organisers, this contest is open to Vietnamese girls between the ages of 16-25. The competition will have three rounds, the qualifier round, the audition round and the final round in HCM City on November 7, 2009.

The organisers also said that the first prize winner will receive a cup, $10,000 bonus and a trip to South Korea, the most dynamic entertainment market in Asia, to be trained to become a super star in Asia.

The competition is organised as a playground to connect Vietnamese and the community of Koreans in Vietnam, the organising board said.

According to the organisers, a super star is defined as an outstanding artist who has eye-catching appearance, good performance skills and is good at singing and dancing. Superstars are people who are beloved by people around the world, bringing huge benefits to the country and improving their country’s brands. They quoted Korean singer and actor Bi Rain as a typical example.

In Vietnam, some contests to seek stars in music, fashion and movies have been held but most of the winners of these contests have not become real stars because Vietnam still lacks a professional showbiz industry like South Korea.

If the organisers of the Vietnam Super Star Contest keep their promise in training and launching Vietnamese artists in South Korea, it will be a good chance for Vietnamese contestants.

The event is co-organised by the Rainbow Media company from South Korea, Vietnam’s UNESCO - International Cultural Exchange Centre and the HCM City Cultural Centre.
