More than 10 directors are collaborating to produce a 25-episode documentary, Implementation of Uncle Ho’s Testament in 40 Years, to mark the 40th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s death (September 2, 1969).

The first episodes aired on Sunday and yesterday, August 31. More follow on VTV1 at 8pm from Thursday to Sunday.

The rest of the documentary will be filmed and released next year to mark 120 years since Ho Chi Minh’s birth.

The documentary is split into three parts. The first episode is President Ho Chi Minh with the Historic Testament. The following 20 episodes cover how the people and party have followed the testament for 40 years.

The final four episodes are Implementing the Testament in the Integration and Development Period.

The directors said they expected TV audiences to appreciate Ho Chi Minh’s intelligence, morality and devotion as well as efforts to implement the testament after 40 years, said Viet Nam Feature Film Studio deputy director Vuong Duc.

“Making the audience interested in a documentary is not easy,” said Duc, who worked with Russian Television 20 years ago on a documentary on President Ho and had studied deeply on his life, personality, devotion and career.

“When making the documentary, I learned more about his life by studying different material such as Party documents, General Vo Nguyen Giap’s memoirs and documents of foreign organisations and agencies.”

Joining Duc are well-known directors and film crew such as Le Duc Tien, Le Van Duy, Duong Cam Thuy, Dang Nhat Minh, Hai Ninh, Khac Loi and Khanh Du.

During the 25 episodes, different directors will try to express different styles to interest the audience.

Duc said he and the crew were putting all their efforts into the documentary.

“All of us are encouraged by our respect for the great leader.”

“Shooting would include scenes from France, Chile, China, Cambodia, Laos, the US and Thailand,” said artist Le Duc Tien, the documentary’s general director.

“I didn’t meet Uncle Ho but when he passed away in 1969 I listened to his funeral on the radio,” Tien said. “When filming, I understood him much more. For me, the documentary is a heavy responsibility and a great honour.”

Artist Ly Thai Dung is the main cameraman and artist Huy Thanh is in charge of general editing.

The HCM City Film Association and the studio are jointly producing the documentary.
